You are warmly invited to a webinar entitled "How to Utilize Plant Occurrence Data Using the GBIF Repository", presented by Dr. Agnieszka Bugaj-Nawrocka from the University of Silesia on June 25, 2024, at 9:00 AM.
GBIF, or the Global Biodiversity Information Facility, is an international network and research infrastructure to provide open access to worldwide biodiversity data. It offers free access to over 3 billion records of organism occurrences collected from various sources, such as museums, scientific institutions, and citizen science projects.

GBIF, or the Global Biodiversity Information Facility, is an international network and research infrastructure to provide open access to worldwide biodiversity data. It offers free access to over 3 billion records of organism occurrences collected from various sources, such as museums, scientific institutions, and citizen science projects.
Dr. Agnieszka Bugaj-Nawrocka is a zoologist specializing in entomology. She is an assistant professor at the Faculty of Natural Sciences at the University of Silesia in Katowice, within the Institute of Biology, Biotechnology, and Environmental Protection. Additionally, she serves as a data steward there, responsible for data management, which involves working at the interface of science, technology, and administration. A key part of her role is ensuring data quality, compliance with privacy and security policies, and facilitating access to crucial information for stakeholders.
This role complements her position as data manager in the "Polish GBIF Node" project, conducted under the Ministry of Science and Higher Education's program "Supporting the participation of Polish scientific teams in international research infrastructure projects," led by the University of Warsaw under Dr. Piotr Tykarski. Soon, the Institute of Dendrology PAS will also officially join this project as a partner since we are members of KSIB (National Biodiversity Information Network), which forms the basis for the consortium implementing the project. The Institute's representative in KSIB is Dr. habil. Dominik Tomaszewski. With Dr. Agnieszka Bugaj-Nawrocka and other representatives from consortium units, I focus on the role of data manager within GBIF, promoting awareness about the repository and encouraging researchers to publish their project data and use the repository as a data source. We also hope to make available data from our Institute, including the Institute's Herbarium.
The proposed seminar aims to familiarize you with the GBIF repository and demonstrate how it can be used for your research. I encourage you to attend and participate in the discussion following the lecture.
