Kórnik Arboretum
The Kórnik Arboretum belongs to the Institute of Dendrology of the Polish Academy of Sciences. A rich collection of trees and shrubs from the temperate zone of the northern hemisphere has been collected here. Particularly numerous species represent the woody flora of eastern Asia (Japan, Korea, China) and North America. The collections also include trees and shrubs from the mountainous areas of Central Asia and the Caucasus.
The number of species and varieties in the arboretum's collections is currently approximately 3,500.

Reminder: The main entrance to the Arboretum is located by the Castle on 5 Zamkowa Street.
Before entering the Arboretum it is necessary to buy an entrance ticket. Tickets can be purchased at the ticket office before entering the facility (payment by card or cash). Ticket sales end half an hour before the Arboretum closes.
The ticket entitles you to visit the Arboretum on your own. The Arboretum has educational paths, an educational glade, a picnic clearing, a playground, as well as the Arboretum office.
Other forms of sightseeing involve additional costs. Please remember organized groups wishing to visit the park with a guide should book a tour by phone or email. School groups are welcome to attend green lessons or workshops.

The application is free and can be used at any time.
What do you need to do? The free “Kórnik Arboretum” application is downloaded from the Play Store or App Store. Install it on your phone and you can use it right away. In the app, there is a classic option and an option for children (the so-called family version).

Three types of games are available: “Quest Arboretum in Kórnik”, ‘Great Adventure in Wielkopolska Gardens’, and ‘Explorer Conqueror’.

The most famous tree in the Kórnik Arboretum is the swamp cypress with its characteristic roots (pneumatophores) growing above the ground surface. It was brought to Kórnik in 1845 and is the most famous swamp cypress in Poland.
It is a naturally occurring species in southeastern North America where it grows in swamps, river valleys and floodplains. Growing in swampy soil, it produces so-called pneumatophores, roots that grow out of the ground beneath its crown, serving to ventilate the root system, which is often submerged in water. The first cypress trees were brought to Kórnik by Tytus Działyński - the creator not only of the exuberant Kórnik library, but also of a collection of trees and shrubs
The term arboretum comes from the Latin word “arbor” (tree) and means an area where woody plants are gathered.
The Kórnik Arboretum is the oldest and one of the richest arboreta in Poland and Central Europe. It was founded in 1826 by Tytus Dzialynski in the park surrounding the Castle. The first research institution was established here in 1933 - the Department of Tree and Forest Research. In 1952, the Department became part of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Currently, the Arboretum is part of the Institute of Dendrology of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
