Characteristics: | A large tree with a large trunk, deeply furrowed, almost black bark. Large, pinnate 60 cm long leaves consist of 15-23 leaflets. Globular fruit with thick, rough cover, highly fragrant. Nut shell is thick, dark brown and bluntly ridged, the kernel is tasteless. Dark brown wood is highly valued in furniture-making. | |
Additional information: | Nut shells contain a brown dye which was once used by cloth-dyers. Eastern Black Walnut was brought to Europe in 1686, and in 1770 to Poland. |
