Dear All,
We are pleased to invite you to participate in the 3rd Scientific Conference "Trees and Forests in a Changing Environment", organized by the Institute of Dendrology, Polish Academy of Sciences, in cooperation with the Poznań Branch of the Polish Academy of Sciences. The conference will take place on 12–14 October 2026 in Kórnik and Poznań, Poland.
Forests are among the most valuable and diverse terrestrial ecosystems on Earth. They play a fundamental role in shaping and maintaining landscapes, protecting soils, regulating water cycles, and driving nutrient cycling and energy flow. Forests also constitute one of the most important pillars of biodiversity conservation at both local and global scales. Equally important are trees growing in agricultural landscapes and urban environments, where they significantly improve environmental quality, living conditions, and human well-being.
Rapidly changing environmental conditions, including ongoing climate change, present major challenges to the functioning of trees and forest ecosystems. At the same time, trees and forests play a crucial role in mitigating the impacts of these changes. Understanding the mechanisms underlying tree and forest functioning, their adaptive capacity, and the interactions within forest ecosystems has become one of the key challenges of modern biology, ecology, forestry, and nature conservation.
The conference aims to present the latest advances in research on the biology and ecology of woody plants and the functioning of forest ecosystems under current and projected environmental changes, including climate change. It will provide a forum for discussing the practical application of new scientific knowledge in applied biology, nature conservation, and forestry, as well as for identifying future research priorities, particularly those requiring interdisciplinary collaboration. We also hope that the conference will strengthen cooperation among research institutions and scientific communities engaged in the study of trees and forests.
This year's conference is of particular significance, as it coincides with the 200th anniversary of our Arboretum, the oldest part of the Institute of Dendrology of the Polish Academy of Sciences. During the conference, participants will have the opportunity to discover the richness of our living collections and learn about the Arboretum's mission, which can be summarized in four words: to collect, to study, to educate, and to share.
We hope that the third edition of the conference "Trees and Forests in a Changing Environment" will once again serve as an important platform for presenting the latest scientific achievements, exchanging knowledge, fostering in-depth scientific discussion, and strengthening collaboration among researchers working on woody plants and forest ecosystems. We also aim to create a meeting place for scientists and practitioners, encouraging the exchange of experience, discussion of future research directions, and exploration of the practical application of new knowledge in applied biology, nature conservation, and forestry.
We look forward to welcoming you to Kórnik and Poznań!
