Election of new members of the Polish Academy of Sciences took place on Thursday, June 26. In accordance with the Act on the Polish Academy of Sciences, members of the Academy are elected by the General Assembly of the Academy from among scholars who have distinguished themselves with special scientific achievements and authority in the scientific community, and have a good reputation. Membership of the Academy is for life. The body consists of no more than 350 scholars.
As a result of the elections, Prof. Andrzej M. Jagodzinski became a correspondent member of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
Prof. Jagodzinski's research is carried out on the borderline of two scientific disciplines - forest sciences and biological sciences. He has been affiliated with our Institute since 2002, i.e. since his graduation from the Forestry Department. He is the author of more than 350 scientific and popular science papers, including nearly 200 published in prestigious journals indexed by Web of Science Clarivate (including Nature, Science, Nature Plants, Nature Ecology & Evolution, Nature Communications). He is among the most cited scientists in the world. He has been the promoter (and assistant promoter) of seven completed doctoral dissertations and supervisor of more than 70 engineering and master's theses. Since 2019, he has been director of the Institute of Dendrology of the Polish Academy of Sciences, and previously served two terms as deputy director of the Institute for organization and development. He is also an academic teacher at the Faculty of Forestry and Wood Technology at the Poznan University of Life Sciences.
