Research focus:
I am a scholar specialising in the biology of forest tree seeds and in the retention of plant genetic resources. In my research, I focus on the understanding of the effect of environmental factors on seed dormancy and germination. A crucial part of my work is the issue of seed storage and its effect on seed viability and the further growth of seedlings. I place special emphasis on the seeds that are difficult to store (recalcitrant seeds). Their uniqueness is related to their resistance to water loss, which makes their long-term storage impossible. In order to effectively secure the genetic resources of such plant species, I extend my studies with cryopreservation techniques used with seed materials and in vitro plant breeding. In my work, I hope to get insight into seed biology and develop effective methods for seed storage. It is vital to effectively secure plant genetic resources in order to maintain biodiversity and successfully cultivate forest trees.
